most surprising performing arts
boldness, innovation, engagement, originality, dynamism, flexibility, small-scale operation and daring
Do Foundation is an organization that brings together like-minded initiatives in the field of music and theater.
It stimulates an original perspective on art in the broadest sense of the word and aims to challenge the art world with surprising projects.
Board: Pascal Rijnders (chairman), Iris Casteren van Cattenburch (secretary), Gerard Rosinga (treasurer), Frans Sedee, Frans van der Wiel. Artistic direction: Moos d’Herripon & Kees Wieringa
Core principles: boldness, innovation, engagement, originality, dynamism, flexibility, small-scale operation, and daring. Content drives form—sometimes taking a journalistic approach, other times drawing on performers’ personal experiences.
Mission: Challenge conventional “categorical thinking” by operating outside traditional disciplinary frameworks. The organization functions as an “idea factory” that both produces and presents artistic concepts, maintaining an independent position to comment on social developments, including themes from non-Western cultures.
Four operating divisions:
- Do Dance – theater performances at the intersection of dance, theater, and music (productions include: C in Klein, Noem mij maar Boom, Atlas, Chopin Sonate, Vluchten, Kazan de Wolfshond)
- Do Theatre – Apollo
- Do Music – festivals and music series (Carols on Piano, Nieuwe Noten, Morton Feldman Marathon, Tom Johnson Festival)
- Do Records – record label releasing CD premieres of Dutch music in international contexts
Distinguishing features: Strong audience communication, high-quality design and advertising, and significant media attention despite small-scale operations, resulting in impressive audience turnout.
